Events - Mote Marine Field Trip

Signup list begins circulating at club meetings on December 15 meeting. Contact Gary Wood for details or to sign up. Advance signups are needed to make sure we have enough to get the discount. Regular prices are $10 for ages 4-12, $15 for adults. Our discounted price with a group of 10 or more is $8/$10.

We meet in the parking lot at Mote Marine by 10:00 am. Gary will collect payment at that time and then purchase the group tickets. Cash only since he has to pay cash at the ticket window.

Directions:
Take Fruitville Road exit 210 off I-75 west to Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41), turn left.  At Gulfstream Avenue turn right and proceed across the Ringling Causeway to St. Armands Circle.  Exit the circle at North Boulevard of the Presidents. Proceed one mile to the traffic signal at Ken Thompson Parkway and turn right.  Main parking for the aquarium will be on the right.

The Mote Marine Laboratory is a research organization dedicated to excellence in marine and environmental sciences and education.  The facility hosts several exhibits including aquariums showing the life in our local waters.  There are also some touch & feel exhibits where you can caress the silky, soft skin of some friendly rays or small sea urchins (ouch) and some no-touch exhibits such as the Shark Tank.  The Sea Cinema gives you a "sharks-eye" view of the underwater world and some insight into shark behavior.

You have a chance to get up close and personal with two mammoth manatee pals who eat $100 worth of romaine lettuce for lunch every day.

We get a group discount if we have at least 12 people. This is a fun thing to do on a winter day when it's too cold to go diving or swimming.

Signup lists will be available at club meetings for several weeks prior to the event.
