Comment/Description:
Dive with the Lemon Sharks!!

The annual spawning congregation of Lemon Sharks is coming. Prepare yourself !!
The Lemon Shark gathering is an event every diver should experience at least once in a
lifetime. Only the “mature” Sharks gather, and are more interested in each other than
“annoying divers” (unless the divers seperate the sharks from their friends). These
adults range in approximate size from 7 to 11 feet. They have a yellowish or “lemony”
coloration to their skin, thus the common name.

The water temperature is normally 70 to 72F. The oxygen density in the water at that temperature allow the normally active or constantly moving sharks to settle on the bottom, open their mouths to the current and “rest.” Only Nurse Sharks are normally found on bottom resting, so this in itself is an unusual behavior. The depths they settle in range from 70 to 90 feet. EAN 36 to 38 will maximize your bottom times at these depths. The visibility is normally 50 to 70 feet, but will vary with weather.

Last year thousands of lemon Sharks were counted from the air. Possibilities of an
encounter with them are good. The best way to approach them is to slowly swim along
the bottom, or sit quitely and let them come to you. If they are approached from the
water column above them they will scatter, and may become agrressive. I have a film of
this from 2003 on DVD.

Come join us in this once in a life-time experience, Go Diving with the Lemon Sharks
