Caloosa Dive Club -- Scuba Diving in Southwest Florida

East Coast Florida - Pompano

September 17, 2005

We couldn't have asked for a better day. Hot & sunny, nice spacious boat with a great sense of humor and even a good collection of music on board so we were able to save our voices and our special rendition of Lola for another day. I believe we did a fair job with the Theme of Gilligan's Isle though.

Our first stop was the Emperor of the Sea. The visibility was excellent - at least 50-60 feet and the water temperature still in the 80's. There was plenty of room for everyone to head off in a different direction and explore the holds of the ship or the area around it. Each dive team came back with stories of what they saw and how great the dive was. Photo on the Emperor of the Sea by Gary Wood.

The second dive was a drift along a very nice ledge/ridge called Sanctuary.  The hunters headed off in the direction that had the most promise for lobster and other delightful creatures of the sea - and just a few came back with some keepable bugs and fish.  Some members of the group spotted a 14 foot Hammerhead Shark and the rest of us were happy we didn't see it since we did end up hanging around a while waiting for our pick-up.

We did our usual dining duties at a local place called Flanagans and came away satisfied and fueled for our trip back home.

We dove with South Florida Divers.  The boat, even with our big group of divers on it had plenty of room and even fruit, soda, water & cookies!
