Early on Saturday, around 10:30 and that is
early for some of the group, there was a great
deal of flurry and fussing while gear was
transferred from boat to boat so we could head
out to the Culverts for some diving. It was
slightly fluffy but not too bad to jump in and
enjoy the warmer Gulf water and the not so great
visibility of around 10 feet. Regardless
we managed to get in two days of diving and a
number of valuable lessons.
1. Don't hook your stringer of fish to the
end of your speargun. Some creature with a big,
toothy smile, may appear and take your fish ...
and oh, your speargun.
2. Spearfishermen really can walk on water
when conditions are right.
3. Sharks seem to grow and change
species as the story gets repeated.
4. If you come up off the marker, just under
the boat and make a safety stop, it's possible
to get to the surface and wonder how far away
that boat really is.
5. Don't try to convince a group of divers
that they might want to swim from your boat to
their own boat in a current, just take them up
near their boat and throw them in.
6. Thursday night ... the rest of the story. |
