On
May 13, 2006 29 members & friends gathered for our trip
to Costa Rica.
Starting at 5 am our bus picked up our members at the
Elkins & Miller houses. Heading to Miami for our 3+ hour
flight to Costa Rica.
The members & friends attending were Bob & Ruth
Sofranko, Bob & Janet Miller, Jim & Margie Elkins, Bob &
Kathryn Donaldson, Henry & Carolynn Littleton, Bob &
Ruth Van Jones, Bev & Cliff Thompson, Larry & Roberta
Knight, Mel & Denise Marley, Dave & Debbie Headd, Kim
Routh, Kathy Donan, Gena Burson, Jim & Pat Cole, Atrie &
Lucy Ferguson & Jack & Maril McClure.
Upon our arrival we were met by our guides from Bill
Beards tours who were with us for the entire trip. After
a bumpy 2 1/2 bus ride we arrived at the Flamingo Marina
Hotel. It was onto the pool & cocktails & dinner at a
local eatery.
The next night at dinner we celebrated Jack & Maril
McClure's 19th wedding Anniversary With a toast, dinner
& cake.
The next 4 days was drinking, dinning & diving. Some
out our friends went fishing & caught the dinner for the
next 2 nights The Hotel Rest. cooked up the Mahi &
Grouper. During cocktails they served raw tuna which was
caught by our fishing people. It melted in your mouth.
Thank you to or fishermen & women.
We
had 4 days of 2 tank dives. 15 to 20 of vis each day
with mild to extra strong surge. Some of us have the
scratches & bruises to prove it. Tons of hard coral,
Star fish, schools of rays & even larger schools of
fish. Had a good dive boat with easy off & easy on. A
great crew & dive guides who got us all back to the
boat.
On May 18, we headed out on a 5+ hour bus tour to our
next hotel, the Volcano Lodge, Stopping to take pix's of
the active Arenal volcano. At night you can here the
rumbling of the Volcano & see the red lava flowing. What
a great sight.
That night it was off for an hour or so to the hot
springs. 100+ water felt great on aching bones.
The next morning it was off for an hour horse back
ride up into the rain forest & a long climb up never
ending set of steps to our canopy zip line tour.
Everyone was fitted with a harness.
Over
200 feet up a tree (still more steps to climb) , Zip
lines were strung from one tree to another. Some of the
lines were a 1000 feet long. You could hear people
screaming all the way down the line. What a thrill ride
it was. Once back on firm footing it was back to the
horses for a ride back to the buses. Did I say firm
footing???
Some of our group went for a walking tour of the
rainforest & some went back to the hot springs.
Then it was onto dinner where we celebrated Gena
Burson 25th birthday. The cake was provided buy our tour
guides. The guides told Gena that it was an old Costa
Rican Custom the she had to pick the flower off the cake
with her teeth. Upon doing so the guide gently touched
the back of her head putting her nose into the frosting.
The next day we headed out to do a few hours of white
water rafting. Another great time was had. A few of our
people made fast exits from the raft after hitting some
rocks. Water fights were in order all the way down the
river.
Later that day we arrive at the Hotel Irazu in San Jose.
The arrival was just in time for an hour of free
cocktails. Then onto dinner.
The last day it was off to the airport & the flight
home. The end of a great, perfect vacation.
Special thanks must go out to Gene at Aqua Dreams
Travel & our guides from Bill Beards. Everything ran
like clock work. Giving everyone a great Vacation.
