We had 4 great dives in Palm Bch. with Jim
Abernathy's. We dove at Flower Garden, Ron's Reef to
Ron's Rock, and Bath & Tennis. Sat. was cloudy, but on
Sunday we had plenty of sun, and the seas were less than
2 feet both days. Visibility was est. between 60-80 feet
hoizontally, and dives were to a depth of approx. 60
feet. There is always such a variety on the East
coast-it's like seeing Paul Humann's book! All types
and stages of growth of angels- blue, french, townsend,
queen, and blues- often many varieties at the same time
- cornet fish, honeycomb cows, tarpon in the distance,
polka-dot batfish (a first for me to see), parrots,
trumpets, green turtle, nurse shark, stone crab,
lobsters, gray triggers, and schools of Atlantic spade
fish. The file fish family was well represented with
white spot, orange spot, and scrawled. Eels- green
morays, spotted, and yellowtails. We also saw a school
of glass-eyed snappers. A friendly goliath grouper was
seen on both days. Midnight parrots- always a joy to
see, along with the puffer family. Squid on 3 dives,
from a single, to a group of 30. On one dive we
watched numerous yellow and bar jacks slicing
continuously through schools of juv. grunts and other
small fishes. The topography is made up of a variety of
vase and barrel sponges, sea fans, gorgonians, and sea
rods.
Top side - the boat is orderly, and well run with a very friendly crew-
ready to help with anything- from loading gear on and
off, to handing down cameras, (for which there is a
large rinse tank), and helping divers to their seats.
There is always a look-out for surfacing divers, and the
crew seems to get along with most of their competition-
radioing each other with info on what's going on below.
There are plenty of snacks on board, along with fresh
cut pineapple. After the dive, there is a rinse tank for
the gear, and nice indoor shower and changing
facilities for divers at the marina.
