Caloosa Dive Club -- Scuba Diving in Southwest Florida

The Keys - Key Largo - July 14-16

This was definitely a Caloosa Dive Club does Key Largo weekend.  The scheduled dive this weekend was a Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning dive with Amy Slates in Key Largo. The dive filled up quickly and 3 club members didn't make it on the list so Cristal Clear Charters came into play with a 6-pack boat they keep in Key Largo. It's become a regular event for many of the group to travel down to the Keys on Friday and have a BBQ at the hotel or boat dock. It seems silly to travel all the way there on Friday and not take advantage of an opportunity to dive so we ended up at Island Ventures for a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning reef trip. We filled up their boats and there were still a few people who wanted to dive those extra days and Quiescence Dive Center had one of their 6-packs available. Eel by Cherri Wood. Dive Coordinator "Anemone Man" on the City of Washington by Todd Welle.

Wow - 25 or so divers, 3 charter operators combined to give us 6-8 fantastic dives over the weekend. A BBQ on the dock, a delicious dinner at one of the local restaurants that can actually handle a group our size - good friends and a weekend away from the daily grind - Is life good or what?

We don't have all the details but we know dives were made on The Elbow, Snappers Ledge, Molasses Reef, the Benwood and the Spiegel Grove. The weather was a little challenging on Friday afternoon but showed progressive improvement and by Sunday it was calm and comfortable. We could make a huge list of what we saw but you've already heard it all. There were a few notable events that are worth mentioning here though. Bob & Janet Miller both hit the 200 dive mark and were presented with a framed, signed certificate including underwater photos taken by Brian Chouiniere on that day. Todd Welle celebrated his ??? birthday and Lynne Casey made her first dive on the Spiegel Grove.

We think everyone had fun despite the minor glitches that always accompany big excursions.  For more photos, visit the individual photo galleries.
